I had real work to do this weekend on my consulting gig so I haven't had a chance to anything much on the Jag. It's getting late in the day to be doing painting so I took my MicroMark desktop heat gun and used it to refine the curvature of the trunk lid so it sits right in the opening. This isn't a paid plug but I love this thing!
I have been harboring some anxiety that the lid would not open properly or sit up where it should. So I opened the hinges all the way. I have magnets inside the top of the trunk opening so the hinge arms will "catch" when they're wide open. Anyway, I lined up the hinge mounting points where they will eventually be glued onto the lid and ... well see for yourself
Is that cool or what? Those are going to line up right where I wanted them to be and the trunk lid will open about the same as the real car. Woohoo! I love it when a plan comes together.
You can also see the embarrassing unpainted little bit of evergreen strip I had to glue into the opening on the front left to line it up. The other side is actually lined up fine, the "trunk card" is just sitting there loose atm. You can also see the evergreen tubes that I used to "nail" the trunk floor onto the superstructure that I built in the bottom of the tail to hold it.
And <hanging my head in shame> there's a kink in the trailing edge of the opening. I will sort that out before it all gets glued together. I'm very happy with how well this is finally fitting together. It has been a looooooong haul to get here.
The evergreen in the bottom right was used for my first failed attempt at making the trunk interior. I've kept that for doing finish work for the door openings. Those are going to need some work and I won't know how much until I get the tail section locked down.
Wow, looks great Chris.
