Now that I’ve got the trunk lid attached and working, I need to glue a magnet behind each door jam for the “door latch” to grab onto when the door is closed. They will be behind the (yeah, scratch built) door jam so I need to glue them in before I can glue the roadster tail in place. I will then make facsimiles of the real door striker and latch, with another magnet inside the door. After that I am going to need to turn my attention to the door hinges. First, this is what Revell thinks E-Type door hinges look like…

The pin slides through the hole and then you glue the top and bottom of the pin into receiving slots in the inside of the body below the A-pillar. Then the “arms” go through those (horrible, gaping, what were you thinking??!) slots in the front door jam and the similar (horrible, gaping, what were you thinking??!) slots in the front of the interior door skin. Those fat little “pins” get glued into receiving holes inside the door skin. With all that said, you’d probably be surprised to learn that THIS is what E-Type door hinges actually look like….
Yup. A single central (simple) hinge that the kit designers could have done in their sleep. Why did they bother doing the abomination that’s in the kit? So as usual, I’ll be scratch building a hinge solution pretty much the same as the real thing. Stay tuned for the next round of plastic surgery 🤣
Your build narratives are so very educational and helpful, Chris. Thank you. I was thinking about using magnets to secure doors. I had not thought about redesigning a better hinge. I have only glued a couple pieces together at this point. Mostly, I am dry fitting pieces together and thinking out the construction. I have purchased this kit twice (1964 and about 1994). I never finished the Monogram 1/8th scale Jaguar kit...or the Revell re-issue. This time, I will finish the sucker! Steve Miller/ Saginaw, Michigan, USA
