As promised, I’ve been painting and detailing a lot lately. I already had (and used) a lot of the AK metallic paints. What can I say, they’re great. I also ended up buying most of the Alclad metallic paints that I didn’t already have from my friend Lam at A to Z Toy and Hobby. Then I set out to paint spoons with all of them. I want to use a mix of paints and tones so my kit looks more realistic.
I found that the Alclad Gloss black base, Gloss Medium gray base and Gloss pale gray base are all outstanding. The produce a hard glossy surface to paint over. I used my Gaahleri Premium 0.2 airbrush and followed their directions; 15 psi, light fogging coats with som drying time before applying the gloss wet layer. Then I put them in my dehydrator to dry. The results were gorgeous.
Did I mention I bought a lot of Alclad?

There’s more, but you get the idea. While waiting for my gloss spoon to dry, I tried out a bunch of clear candy colors over Alclad Candy Silver base and wow!
I’m now very tempted to paint the car in one of these candy green colors. I also bought a couple of dozen AK acrylic pens from Lam to use for detailing kit parts. For giggles I added some to parts I had already painted or primed…
the pictures don’t do them justice. I love these products. Then I used the Alclad gloss black base to prepare some parts for chrome and high shine metals. Totally happy with these.
Remember “less is more” … 15 psi and very light coats. Then wait 10-15 min and put a wet coat over them.
Absolutely love the dark green. The chrome parts will look fantastic against it. That's my 2 cents!
Do you put a clear coat over this to seal it?
